When starting up or expanding a winery business, commercial wine making equipment is often one of the first purchases made by the owner.

Since this equipment is often expensive, it is wise to first determine what type and amount of equipment will be needed and create a purchase budget before getting started.

Type and Amount of Equipment Needed

Before purchasing any type of commercial wine making equipment, the owner should first determine what type and amount of equipment will be needed for the operations.

This answer can vary based on the projected production size of the winery. Most standard wineries have process equipment, tanks, hoses, pressure washers, racks and pumps as part of the wine making process setup. Additional equipment may be needed if the bottling is done as part of the business.

Create a Purchase Budget

After determining the type and amount of winery equipment needed, the owner should create a purchase budget along with a list of the equipment. It is estimated that an owner should budget at least $85,000 or more for the purchase of commercial wine making equipment. However, some equipment suppliers may offer short-term or long-term financing options, which could be very beneficial to owners.
